Ice cream: I totally commiserate with your cardboard tube issues. The center from a commercial size tube of aluminum foil was the bane of my existence for a long time. Fortunately, the dog chewed it up (good boy! want some more peaunt butter?). Maybe something like that will happen to yours!

I don't like the idea of any metal implement, and I'm on the "giving"side of the equation. The only person I can recall talking about receiving it from a metal implement is Louise, who has often mentioned her husband's steel ruler.

Hi all - just a quickie comment.
The use of bamboo implements......while they are new and therefore well sanded with smooth edges etc they should be fine to use. HOWEVER, if they begin to split, fray or crack please STOP USING THEM right away. Because of the way bamboo is constructed, the individual strands can become as sharp as knives. In some tropical/ subtropical places they are even used as knives.
